One on One Wildlife Painting Course

$185.00

Acrylic wildlife painting typically begins with gathering references and observing the animal’s anatomy, posture, and environment to understand its character and movement. Artists usually sketch a loose outline on the canvas to establish proportions, then block in major shapes using thinned acrylics to map out light, shadow, and basic color families. Because acrylics dry quickly, layers can be built up efficiently—starting with broad, opaque underpainting and gradually adding more refined details such as fur texture, feather patterns, or reflections in the eyes. Techniques like dry brushing, glazing, and scumbling help create depth and realism while still allowing for expressive brushwork. Throughout the process, painters adjust values and edges to ensure the subject feels alive and integrated within its natural setting.
